HCMC to build country’s first modern press center

HCM will soon build the country’s first modern press center whose the first phase is scheduled to come into operation in 2018-2020, said deputy chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen on December 11.

The center aims to help domestic and foreign press agencies to access official information and data from the city and agencies fast, sufficiently and accurately.
Speaking at a workshop held by the Department of Information and Communications, Mr. Tuyen said that currently reporters has met with lot of difficulties in information accessing and exploitation. If agency leaders do not take time to receive them, reporters must search for information themselves. That might result in insufficient and inaccurate information. The center will contribute in fixing that.
In the first phase, the press center will integrate information and data from agencies and ministries. Afterwards it will organize auction to choose a modern database management technology. The data warehouse of the center will closely attach to the city’s common data center.
Instead of asking for information from agencies, reporters will be able to access the center’s data warehouse to exploit official information.
Presenting the center project, deputy director of the Department of Information and Communications Tu Luong said that HCMC has 38 press agencies including 16 newspapers, 20 magazines, one radio station and one television station. In addition, 142 central and local press agencies locate in the city.
The policy of establishing the center shows the city’s determination in implementing the press’ rights of being informed and accessing information sources; positively using press information as a resource, means and method to connect social resources to attend in policy feedbacks.
A modern and professional multimedia center is expected to take shape in HCMC by 2020, capable to serve important national and international events.
The center will be built at 225 Tran Hung Dao street, District 1, over 841 square meters; 2.4-2.9 kilometers far from the city People’s Committee and Party Committee. Hence, city leaders can arrive at the center to supply information at the fastest in every traffic conditions.
In the second phase after 2020, the center will be broadened to 2,000-3,000 square meters.
