Director of the department Bui Ta Hoang Vu said that the event marked a new advance of city tourism.
To lure visitors, the department and relevant agencies have continuously organized, maintained and improved tourist advertising and promotion events such as Nguyen Hue flower street, Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional clothing) festival, HCMC Tourism Festival, Street Show, International Travel Expo HCMC and HCMC International Marathon.
In addition, the city has sped up IT application, improved management ability to serve businesses and residents and diversified tourist products such as MICE, waterway tourism and community based tourism.
The city’s tourist industry will strive to reach the target of eight million international and 29 million domestic visitors to the city in 2018.
This year, HCMC has received 6.3 milion international visitors, increasing 22.88 percent over last year and obtaining 110 percent of the year plan. Total revenue from the tourist industry reached VND116 trillion ($5.11 billion), up 12.6 percent.
