The statement was made by Politburo member, secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan after leading a city high level delegation in working visits to Laos and Cambodia from January 22-27.
According to Mr. Nhan, Laos and Cambodia are two neighbors having the special friendship with Vietnam. HCMC Party Committee, authorities and residents have been making efforts for the last 42 years to contribute in building the friendship and special cooperation with the two countries.
Within the framework of the visits, the delegation arrived in Lao's Vientiane, Sanvannakhet and Champasak provinces and Cambodian's Phnom Penh to learn about cooperation demand among local authorities.
For the first time in Vientiane, HCMC agencies and leaders shared experiences in urban and financial management with the participation of 300 Lao cadres.
Visiting Vietnamese families in Laos, the delegation found their second and third generations still keep Vietnamese culture and have attachment to their fatherland.
The community of Vietnamese people in Lao provinces have worked together to establish Vietnamese schools teaching Vietnamese beside Laos’ curriculum with the assistance of teachers from Vietnam.
After the visits, Mr. Nhan commented that it is needed to supplement more teachers and upgrade the material infrastructure of the schools. The delegation gave a school which they visited financial assistance and scholarships.
The delegation also visited families of Lao senior officials who expressed their sentimental and close affection to Vietnam about the cooperation and mutual assistance since the war time until now.
They recalled deep memories between Lao leaders and late president Ho Chi Minh and paid their regards to Vietnamese and HCMC leaders.
During the working visit to Cambodia, the HCMC high level delegation met Phnom Penh leaders Pa Socheatevong and Khuong Sreng, deputy president of Cambodian People’s Party and deputy prime minister Samdech Sar Kheng and deputy president of the party and president of the Senate of Cambodia Samdech Say Chhum.
It was not long before the visit, Cambodia organized the 39th anniversary of defeating the Cambodian genocide.
Receiving the HCMC delegation, Cambodian leaders sincerely recalled that without Vietnam’s help, Cambodia could not defeated the regime.
For the first time, the delegation and Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, director of HCMC National University, visited the Royal University of Phnom Penh and found that the university is in the large need of lecturer training and might set up Vietnamese language teaching center at the university.
The country’s largest university has so far taught English, Korean and Japanese.
Mr. Nhan said that HCMC provides five scholarships every year to train lecturers with masters and doctoral degrees for the university. The meeting between the delegation and the university created a contact and cooperation opportunity for leaders of the university and the HCMC National University.
“We believed that after the visits attended by representatives from nearly 10 agencies and other city leaders, each agency will have specific plans so that the cooperation between HCMC and the above provinces and cities to go in depth, contributing in developing the good relationship between Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia,” said Mr. Nhan.
