Heavy downpour paralyzes traffic

Two hour-long heavy downpour flooded many areas in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday afternoon paralyzing traffic.

“A sea of rainwater” submerged Districts 6, 10, 11, Binh Tan , making streets impassable and flooding vehicles as high as 50 centimeters, breaking down many motorcycles. Drivers were resigned to waiting for the water ebbing.

Pretty soon the water was coming over the threshold and into the house along streets; therefore, residents had to place sand bag in front of their house to keep rain-water out of the shelter.

The National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center said that a turbulence of wind from the east would affect central provinces, bringing heavy rain and raising river water in the region.

It also warned of flash flooding in mountainous areas.
