Heavy rain causes street flooding in city

A heavy rain late afternoon on September 14 caused trees to fall and massive traffic jams in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vehicles got seriously stuck on such main streets as Nguyen Trai, Nguyen Van Cu, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Dien Bien Phu, Dinh Tien Hoang, Hai Ba Trung in districts 1 and 3, and some areas in Go Vap District.

The heavy rain also inundated many streets such as  Chau Van Liem in District 5, Nguyen Huu Canh in Binh Thanh, Tan Hoa Dong and Ba Hom in District 6, Pham Phu Thu and Dong Den in Tan Binh District.

A seven-seat taxi of the Vinasun Corp suddenly fell into a sinkhole on Le Van Sy Street in District 3. The car head plunged into over 2m water depth.

The hole with a deep vault covering on an area of about 15 square meters was caused by digging road in the city. Several large cracks have also occurred in the hole’s surrounding area.

A container truck turned over on the overpass bridge at Cat Lai T-junction in District 2 in the afternoon on the same day. Driver Linh Van Nam, 41, from Dong Nai Province, escaped death.
