Highest Tet bonus tops US$50,000 in HCMC

The highest Tet bonus in HCMC is VND1.17 billion (US$50,373) a person at a company in field finance-banking-insurance and average bonus is VND10.3 million a person, announced director of HCMC Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs Le Minh Tan yesterday afternoon.

After surveying nearly 2,000 businesses with 415,000 workers in the city, Mr. Tan estimated that Tet bonus is one month salary at most of businesses and the bonus value is 25 percent higher than the same period last year.
The highest bonus belongs to businesses in the fields of finance-banking-insurance, management-consultancy-real estate investment, electronics-information technology, medicine and food-foodstuff. Small scale businesses and those using unskilled workers give lower bonus levels.
Bonus for the New Year 2019 is VND3.4 million a person, 28 percent higher than the same period last year. Of these, foreign direct investment (FDI) firms give VND9.4 million a person on average. The highest level is VND500 million a person at an FDI firm.
Besides bonus, many businesses have given workers practical assistances such as giving presents, coupons and lucky money. In addition, they have provided train or bus tickets and organized bus trips for workers to return home for Tet celebration.
Enterprises have also planned yearend party, visits to disadvantageous workers and Tet celebration organization for those unaffordable for tickets to return home.
