Ho Chi Minh City, Japan strengthen agricultural co-operation

A record of discussion on agricultural cooperation was signed between Ho Chi Minh City and Japan at the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Head Office on January 20.

Le Thanh Hai, member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan; and Mr. Koya Nishikawa, Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries attended the ceremony.

Accordingly, the city has generated a great interest in fields such as increasing yields and quality of agricultural products; processing and postharvest technology; promoting selection and breeding of cattle, vegetables and flowers; and facilitating production of high-quality agricultural products which meet Japanese standards.

Mr. Koya Nishikawa praised the city’s efforts in socio-economic development. He suggested the city’s authorities should keen on developing infrastructure and traffic; refrigeration system supply; improving food safety regulations; and creating more favorable conditions for Japanese food processing businesses. 

All these issues will be discussed in the upcoming dialogue on agricultural development cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.

Mr. Le Thanh Hai highly appreciated the visit of Japanese delegation and he pledged that the city will deploy quickly to implement the record of discussion.

The apanese minister stressed that the cooperation will help Japanese enterprises seek more business opportunities in HCM City and promote relations between the two countries.
