Japan Donates Valuable Animals to Ho Chi Minh City

Taking care of a hippopotamus at the Saigon Zoological and Botanical Garden

Japan’s Fuji Zoological Park has given 10 lions and 3 kangaroos to the Saigon Zoological and Botanical Garden. The ten lions include five males and five females, aged between 2 and 3 years.

While most of the animals will remain in Ho Chi Minh City, some have been earmarked for a new safari park under construction in Cu Chi district.

While there are presently four lions living in the zoo, the females are too weak to reproduce according to zoo Director Nguyen Thi Hien Luong. The new additions therefore represent a welcome infusion of new blood.
