Some 1,471 free bus tickets and gifts were yesterday given to poor workers in Ho Chi Minh City’s industrial parks and export processing zones in the Children Culture House in Thu Duc District, aiming to help them return home as the Lunar Year of the Goat comes near-end.
The laborers are working in Linh Trung 1 and 2 export processing zones, Cat Lai industrial park and hi-tech zone in the city.
The free ticket giving program is carried out for 8 successive years by labor unions and enterprises. 135,693 tickets have been so far given to meager-income workers who stayed in HCMC for 3 successive years because they can not afford tickets. Total spending for the program is over VND75 billion (US$3,346,500).
This year, the companies' unions in HCMC mobilized 445 enterprises to support bus tickets for 30,384 workers with total expenditure of VND13 billion (US$580,060). Among of these, 23,195 tickets were offered to workers including 1,756 two-way tickets and Tet gifts.
On the same day, 2,581 other tickets and gifts were provided to workers in Tan Thuan, Hiep Phuoc export processing zones and Tan Binh industrial park.
The Labor Union in district 1 yesterday organized a competition to make paper apricot flower and peach flower amongst staffs to offer happy atmosphere. The competition attracted 56 teams. A party to welcome New Year was launched on the same day, the organizers gave gifts each worth VND1 million (US$ 44.7) including cash and commodities to workers of Trung Son food Company in Tan Tao Industry Park. This year, as planned the labor union will present 400 gifts to poor workers each costing VND1 million.
