In this term, the city leaders have urged sectors and agencies to draw up their own programs from the second quarter of 2006.

The city’s five programs on socio-economic development in the period 2006-2010 aim at different targets, but they must work together for the best results. Among them, administrative reforms and the fight against corruption and bureaucracy are the most important as they can affect the effectiveness of the others.

As for the housing program, in the last term, the city planned to build 30,000 apartments for resettlement and for people with low income, but achieved only modest results. In this term, the city set the target of increasing the average residential area to 14 square meters per capita.

Recently, the city authority has presented a pilot project on social housing to the Ministry of Construction. The project includes the clearance of houses built along canals, the drainage of the canals of Tau Hu, Tan Hoa and Lo Gom and the program on building houses for workers in industrial zones or hostels for students.

In the time ahead, the city will issue many policies on housing development. And it should be reminded that housing program should not only focus on constructing or finding capital for construction, but many other things involved. For instance, detailed planning and capital mobilization for infrastructure of urban areas can encourage people to spend money on building houses on planned zones such as Thu Thiem and Tay Bac New Urban Area.

On answering the questions that why many people buy the apartments in Phu My Hung Urban Area despite high price, Mr. Le Thanh Hai said that it is because of the good infrastructure that residents feel secure when settling there.
