Polluting textile company fined VND39 million

Ho Chi Minh City authorities agreed Monday upon a fine of VND39 million (US$2,000) against Thanh Cong Garment-Textile Company for polluting the environment.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc, deputy director of the city Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said the city also ordered the company to install a wastewater treatment system as stipulated by environmental laws by the end of the month.

If the company continues damaging the environment, authorities will suspend their operation.

The department has received many complaints from local residents about the company’s increasing pollution.
