As per the new proposal, motorcycle parking fees will increase by VND1,000-2,000 for one time parking while car parking fees will be raised by 40-50 per cent in the city downtown area.

Parking fees in Districts 1, 2, and 3 for upto 10-seater cars will be VND20,000 for one time parking during daytime; VND15,000 in the remaining inner districts and VND7,500 in suburban districts.

In addition, the HCMC Department of Transport has drawn up a plan for doing away with many roadside and sidewalk parking areas to cope with the worsening traffic congestion.

The department, in its draft plan, insists on revoking permits of parking lots along pavements on 71 streets, as well as 34 other parking lots in the city.
