He was speaking at a ceremony to launch the second phase of the road upgrade project, which has been underway for the last 10 years.
Le Quyet Thang, director of the HCMC Urban Traffic Management Zone, said that in the second phase, the over 10 km long Truong Sa and Hoang Sa roads, from Le Van Sy Bridge in District 3 to Nguyen Huu Canh Street in Binh Thanh District, will be broadened by nine metres.
Greenery, ornamental plants and trees will be planted along the canal edge of the road and street lighting will be installed in intervals, he said.
The project will cost VND407 billion (US$19 million) and is aimed to ease traffic pressure on routes surrounding the area and improve the landscape along both sides of the canal.
Tin specified that the entire road project along Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal will be speeded up so as to complete by Vietnam National Day on September 2.
Local authorities have been asked to keep the area along the roads and near the canal clean, so that the Nhieu Loc- Thi Nghe Canal road will look well-maintained on National Day.
