Smart Saigon Project honored at Big Ideas Competition for Climate Action

The Smart Saigon project of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Computational Science and Technology has received the excellence prize worth US$2,500 at the Big Ideas Competition for Climate Action, according to the city’s Department of Science and Technology.

The Smart Saigon Project which also called "Application of geographic information system and social network in urban transport management under severe weather" is led by Dr. Doan Xuan Huy Minh as chairman. The total cost of implementing the project is nearly 600 million VND, fully invested from the scientific research fund of the Institute for Computational Science and Technology.
The project aims to provide information about flood and traffic jams to authorities, media and local people, especially those who are joining traffic. The two social networks chosen for the experiment are Twitter and Facebook. flood zone information will be provided at http://smartsaigon.info
The Big Ideas Competition for Climate Action was launched by the UN Global Pulse and the Government of the Republic of Korea. this year’s competition is looking for original data-driven ideas to monitor climate-related indicators, including: strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and integrating measures into national policies, among others.
