Sudden rain inundates city streets

Several areas in Ho Chi Minh City were heavily inundated due to the rain, which caused traffic chaos on streets yesterday afternoon.

Several roads including Chau Van Liem, 3 Thang 2 and Hong Bang in District 5 and 11 were submerged under floodwaters.

The drainage system in the above areas should have released water into the Tan Hoa – Lo Gom Canal. However, the drains are either too shallow or narrow to allow the water to flow out into the canal.

The downpour along with strong winds caused a tree in Ward 12 of District 10 to fall on the cables of a telecom company bringing down with it an electric pole in front of a house on Hoa Hung Street.

The house roof was damaged whilst the traffic came to a standstill in the area. However, the authorities were soon present to assess the situation.
