In a bid to reduce traffic gridlock in Ho Chi Minh City at crossroads near railway tracks, the Department of Transport said they will make some adjustments in train timings during peak traffic hours.
The Department of Transport said that the railway line for the North and South routes passes through five districts, namely, Districts 3, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Binh Thanh and Thu Duc.
The railway tracks cut through roads in five districts at 26 locations; hence, traffic jams occur every time a train passes. Some of the most severe traffic congestions take place along Nguyen Van Troi, Le Van Sy, Hoang Van Thu, Highway 13, Kha Van Can and To Ngoc Van Streets.
In an effort to reduce gridlock during rush hours, transport authorities have sent a proposal to Saigon Railway Company to make adjustments in train timings during rush hours between 6-8am and 4-8pm.
Saigon Railway Company has also been asked to work with the Department of Transport to resolve difficulties in implementation of train time adjustment during rush hours.
