The event was attended by Dang Ngoc Tung, member of the Central Party of CPV and Chairman of Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; and Nguyen Thi Thu Ha and Nguyen Van Dua, Deputy Secretaries of the HCMC Party Committee.
At the ceremony, Mr. Tung said that city leaders must be more concerned and lend greater support to workers. He also stressed on the glorious tradition of the Vietnamese working class in their contribution towards national reconstruction and defence, as well as during the industrialisation and modernisation process of the country.
Ha said that the city will increase supervision of workers’ rights and interests and organise various leisure and entertainment activities to improve workers lives.
On the same day, the city organised a discount goods fair for workers. There were 30 stalls at the fair and many kinds of goods were offered at up to 40 per cent discount rates.
The Labour Confederation of Ho Chi Minh City will also provide VND30 million to a charity programme and build six houses, worth VND150 million, to support poor workers in the city.
