Five killed in Sri Lanka suicide bombing: police

COLOMBO, Dec 28, 2008 (AFP) - At least five Sri Lankan security personnel were killed and 15 wounded when a suicide bomber detonated explosives at a checkpoint near a market just outside the capital on Sunday, police said.

Five members of the paramilitary Civil Defence Force (CDF) were killed and others wounded in the attack at a checkpoint manned by them in the Colombo suburb of Wattala, a police official said.

"It was a suicide bombing," a police officer said. "We have sent about 15 people to hospital and recovered five bodies of CDF men."
