NKorea nuclear blast from 10 to 20 kilotons: Russia

MOSCOW, May 25, 2009 (AFP) - The force of North Korea's nuclear explosion on Monday was between 10 and 20 kilotons, the Russian defence ministry said, quoted by news agencies.

"The defence ministry's monitoring service recorded an underground nuclear explosion of between 10 and 20 kilotons in strength on North Korean territory 80 kilometres (50 miles) northwest of the town of Kilju," defence ministry spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky was quoted as saying by RIA-Novosti.

The estimated force would make Monday's blast much more powerful than North Korea's first nuclear test in 2006, also near Kilju, which yielded less than one kiloton.
