Seventh Asia-Europe Meeting ends in Beijing

The two-day summit of the Asia-Europe Meeting closed in Beijing on October 25.

The summit with the theme of "Vision and Action: Towards a Win-Win Solution" reviewed achievements of the ASEM over the past 12 years as well as those at each region.

The summit, which attracted leaders and delegations from 45 ASEM members, discussed global issues of food security, climate change, energy, social cohesion, the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the settlement of security threats by peaceful manners.

ASEM leaders had an in-depth discussion on the current international economic and financial situation to seek measures to minimize its impact as well as form effective cooperation mechanism. 

ASEM leaders approved the ASEM chairman’s statement, the statement on international financial situation, the Beijing statement on sustainable development and the Asia-Europe Cooperation Framework (AECF).

The eighth ASEM is expected to be held in Belgium
