Landslide & flashflood predicted to hit Northern mountainous provinces

According to the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center, the northern mountainous and midland provinces have experienced torrential rains with the highest rainfall of 90-108 mm in two recent days.

The bad weather was due to an impact of the southern region’s tropical- low pressure trough and a low turbulence.

The center forecasted that the northern mountainous provinces would continue suffering heavy to heavy rains on the large scale with its peak rainfall of 150- 300 mm at the mid night. 

From August 14- 17, upstream water level on Red River system is predicted to raise by 1.5- 3.5 meters and cause a flashflood. 

The Thao River's floodwater level is unexpectedly reported at its first and second warning level.

Landslide and flashflood are warned to hit Lai Chau, Son La, Dien Bien, Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Lang Son and Quang Ninh.

Amid to the current complicated weather situation, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention asked the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Recue and Search in the northern provinces and cities, Ministries of Defense, Agriculture and Rural Development, Information and Communications, Transport, Industry and Trade … to quickly adopt necessary measures to take local people out of the dangerous areas, eye the ongoing weather condition, timely provide information on the floodwater level.
