11 Vietnamese fishermen come back from Brunei arrest

A fishing boat with 11 fishermen from the south central province of Phu Yen came back shore Saturday morning after being arrested by Brunei naval forces.

The fishermen have been taken care of by Phu Yen coast guards and local health official.
The boat, owned by 37-year-old Do Van Phung, was earlier arrested by Brunei naval forces on May 21 when they were fishing 40 sea miles southwest of Amboyna Bay, Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands.

A trial has been held in Brunei on June 6 where the fishermen were each sentenced to 22 months in jail. They were forced to pay about VND500 million (US$25,000) to bail themselves out, and Phung would be fined a further VND 260 million.
