Drunk Cambodian shot one Vietnamese dead, other injured in An Giang province

A Vietnamese man was shot dead and another severely injured by a Cambodian drunk commander at Huong Xua restaurant in Tinh Bien town, the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, announced the provincial Investigation Police Agency yesterday.

Offender Lay Buon Thy, 52 year old, is deputy head of Tham Dung frontier police post in Kri Vong district, Ta Keo province, Cambodia.

The dead victim is Le Van Duoc who is a gold shop owner in Ba Chuc town, Tri Ton district, An Giang. The injured is 34 year old Pham Van Quang from Nha Bang town, Tinh Bien district.

According to initial information, Lay Buon Thy had a quarrel with the two Vietnamese at the restaurant at 8:5 p.m. on July 16 although they were not sitting at the same table.

Finding Thy too drunk, an acquaintance led him to his house which is located in front of the restaurant but in the other side of the border.  However Thy returned the restaurant with a handgun and shot Mr. Quang. Mr. Duoc tried to dissuade and was shot to the head and chest, so he died on the spot.

Mr. Quang has severely been injured with a bullet through his mouth to jaw. He is being treated at Cho Ray hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

After the murder, border guard and police in An Giang province and Tinh Bien district were present at the scene and asked Thy to surrender. His family pledged to persuade him to surrender after he was calm down. He was arrested in the next morning.

The An Giang Province Investigation Police Agency said that examination of the murder scene and search of the offender’s house have been completed. Police officers have seized three guns and 500 bullets at his house.

The initial investigation said that the case was caused by a personal conflict.
