Bill: NA Will Decide Issues for Referendums

Viet Nam's latest bill on referendums says that the National Assembly Standing Committee is the panel proposing issues for referendums and the National Assembly (NA) will make a final decision.

The bill says NA deputies have rights to ask the committee to submit issues to the legislative body for holding referendums.

The Social Sciences Institute of Viet Nam held a workshop in Ha Noi on August 2-3 to collect suggestions for the bill from administrators, law experts and scientists.

A completed bill will be submitted to the National Assembly at the NA sitting late this year, and the legislative body is due to pass the law in early 2007.
