The Investigation Agency under Ho Chi Minh City Police Department on July 24 completed investigation and proposed the city Supreme People’s Court to prosecute three people for  smuggling branded clothes.

The agency proposed to prosecute Le Hong Duc, 36 years old, from District 1, for smuggling. Duc hired domestic companies to import goods for the ringleader Tran Anh Tuan who has run away from Vietnam and been wanted.

The two other are Nguyen Buu Qui, 52, Go Vap, an Nguyen Van Sang, 47, District 11, who used to work as customs officials at Saigon Port’s zone 4. They might be prosecuted for irresponsibility causing severe consequences.

Clothes sold at the shops of Milano and Gucci at Sheraton Hotel in District 1 that owned by Tran Anh Tuan, were purchased from Europe of brands like Gucci, Dolce&Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli and Moschino.

However, the commodities were transited via Hong Kong (China) before importing into Vietnam under the form of China-made commodities to lower their values, meant to evade import tariffs.

HCMC police uncovered the case in November, 2012.
