Cops Seize Smuggled Ant-eaters

A frozen ant-eater is kept by Hai Phong Forest Rangers
Police and forest rangers seized two containers used to smuggle 10 tons of scaly ant-eaters into Viet Nam from Indonesia at Chua Ve Pagoda in Hai Phong yesterday.

The Talu Imp-Export Joint-Stock Company crammed fish carton boxes with the frozen animal in the containers, according to a Hai Phong forest ranger.

Smugglers wrapped boxes of the frozen animal and its scales in pineapple packs. Each box of ant-eater weighs 27-30 kg.

This is the second time the company has smuggled the animal. The smuggling was discovered on February 28.

One kilogram of the animal sells for VND 2-2.5 million.
