Customs officers at ICD Phuoc Long Port in Thu Duc District said they had seized 158 elephant tusks hidden in a container coming in from Mozambique.

The case has now been transferred to the Investigation Police. On August 22, Le Van Tu, Deputy Director of Thai Minh Company and an accomplice were caught illegally transporting a container with the elephant tusks through the port into Vietnam.

Police are searching for a 39-year-old man named Ha Manh Giap from the central province of Nghe An. They have reason to believe that Giap is the main person who hired Tu to fake documents at customs. The documents state that the illegal commodity in the container is actually ox leather instead of elephant tusks.

Soon after the case was discovered at the port, investigators began to look for Giap and bring him for questioning, but he had already absconded from his residence.
