Ephedrine pills found unclaimed at HCMC airport

Customs officers at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport found 400,000 medicine pills containing ephedrine, a precursor chemical for making ATS (amphetamine type stimulants), lying uncleared for over a month.

They are in 1,700 boxes imported from India in December and addressed to 44, Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, HCMC, but do not have the name of the receiver.

Officials opened the lot because it had been lying for 30 days beyond the deadline for carrying out import procedures.

Tests by the HCMC Sub-Institute of Criminal Science found the pills containing ephedrine.
