Fine of $1,769 issued to illegal sand dredger

Xuan Tai Company in the Highland province of Kon Tum was fined VND40 million ($1,769) for illegal sand exploitation, said Chief Inspector of the Department of Environment and Natural Resource Tran Cong Hau yesterday.

The company was fined VND8 million for encroaching the Dak Bla River and VND32 million for mining sand illegally in eight months with total amount of 3,507m3.

In addition to paying fine, the company was asked to restore the encroached area and carry out measures to revive the environment. 

Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper last month released an article that Xuan Tai Company built a dam in Dak Bla River to illicitly mine sand which is not in the area the company is allowed to dredge sand. Inspection team of the Department of Environment and Natural Resource detected while paying visits.
