Food watchdog to keep eye on advertising

The food safety watchdog  last weekend announced that it would be in coordination with related agencies to check food adverts amid growing advertising rule violation by many enterprises.

Many companies have provided misleading advertising of their products with nutritional supplements to customers. Accordingly, the Vietnam Food Administration will issue fines if it discovers false claims of companies about their products.

In addition to administrative fines, the food watchdog will withdraw advertising certificate or suspend the false advertisement if it is severe violation or there is a repetition.

For these companies that pay the fines late, they will receive more penalties for not obeying the decision.

The administration will liaise with the Ministry of Information and Communications and  the Department of Information Security - Communications (A87) under the Ministry of Public Security in handling violations on food advertising on internet.

In addition to financial fines issued to companies which scatter misleading advertising of food, the food administration will send documents to the police for charging in a bid to restore order and rules in food advertising,  helping consumers having right information of food products.

Lately, the food administration decided to revoke advertising registration of three products of Nam A Commercial Pharmaceutical Company for violating the regulation. Along with revoking registration, the food administration also decided to suspend advertising of the three products completely.

Accordingly, no advertising company will release advertisement of them.
