Twenty-one individuals accused of involvement in international football betting rings stood trial in a Ho Chi Minh City court.
According to a report by the municipal People’s Procuracy, between 2003-2005, Hoang Gia Cam and Tran Ngoc Long operated football-betting rings in Ho Chi Minh City. The internet-based rings were well known for their size and sophistication by gamblers in Ho Chi Minh City.
The rings were also connected to other international betting rings, receiving commissions for bets placed with overseas bookies worth tens of thousands of US$ per match.
While arresting the twenty-one suspects, the police also seized over VND2.2 billion and US$883,000 in cash as well as dozens of internet stations and mobile phones.
The trial, which started yesterday, will wrap up tomorrow when sentences will be passed.
