Workers without jobs will get unemployment benefit of 60 percent of their last salary under a new decree on social and unemployment insurance passed by the Prime Minister.

Announcing this on December 15 the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said the decree comes with specific regulations to guide its implementation.
Companies around the country have registered to pay unemployment insurance for around six million workers once the decree comes into effect on January 1, 2009.
Workers will receive unemployment benefits if at least 12 months’ premiums are paid in the two years before they become unemployed.
Thus the first worker is expected to benefit at the beginning of 2010.
