Hotel Gamblers Indicted

Police yesterday issued an indictment against 43 people for involving in gambling at high-class hotels and one restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau resort town.

The Ministry of Public Security pressed charges of “organizing gambling” which can earn prison sentences of up to 10 years on 8 suspects including 5 foreigners. Thirty-five others face “gambling” charges.

However, Dao Quang Cuong, head of an illegal casino inside the Duxton Saigon Hotel in HCMC's district 1 is at large and on the wanted list.

A year ago, hundreds of people were caught red-handed gambling inside HCMC's Duxton Saigon Hotel, Food Centre Restaurant and Legend Hotel in district 1, Equatorial Hotel in district 5, and Distac Hotel in Ba Ria Vung Tau province’s Vung Tau town.

Millions of dollars were seized in the case.

Betting for money is illegal in Viet Nam except for a few special zones available only to foreigners.
