Man arrested for throwing wife into river

Police in Gia Lam District in Hanoi on June 5 arrested  48-year-old Nguyen Kim Duc, and are holding him in temporary custody on charges of manslaughter

According to police investigation, he had earlier carried and thrown his wife Nguyen Thi Hien, 50, into the Duong River in Gia Lam District at 10.30am on June 1.

Hien has been lying paralyzed for half a year due to injuries to her brain. She hence suffered depressed and had attempted suicide many times.

On June 1, the couple had an argument and Hien said she wanted to drown herself into Duong River. Duc did not say anything but drove her to Duong River, where he carried her to throw her into the river.

The next day Hien’s body was found in Tri Phuong Commune in Tien Du District in the Northern Province of Bac Ninh, 15km from the scene.

Duc justified his motive to the police as a way of wanting to help his wife die in peace.
