PM lauds criminal investigators for discovering organ trade ring

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has sent a compliment letter to the Criminal Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security lauding investigators for discovering the cross-country organ trade ring with numerous victims.

On behalf of the government, PM Phuc appraised investigators who had arrested five criminals in the ring seizing VND1.9 billion ($81,870) and relating items.
Mr. Phuc asked the Ministry of Public Security to reinforce document to issue severe penalties on those involving the ring according to the present law. Moreover, the Ministry has proposed to give awards to teams and individuals that have done well in the case and directed its sub-division to enhance fights against criminals and criminal activities for the country’s security order especially in Tet holiday ( the Lunar New Year)
Before, police officers of the Criminal Investigation Department had unearthed the organ trade ring arresting five including ringleader Ton Nu Thi Huyen, 44 in Ho Chi Minh City; Hoang Duc Tung, 28 and Pham Quang Canh, 23, both in Hanoi; Huynh Linh Tam, 27 from the central province of Quang Ngai and Nguyen Minh Tam, 20, in the northern province of Vinh Phuc.
According to the initial investigation, Huyen has run the ring since May, 2017 and they have seduced over 100 people to sell kidneys reaping tens of billions of Vietnam dong.
Ringleader Thi Huyen used to sell her kidney and then became the ringleader. Ring members were advertising in the social network and persuaded poor people to sell the organs.
The ring just paid around over VND200 million for a seller and kept VND200 million after a successful sale.
