Border guards in the central city of Da Nang announced on March 17 that they had seized a huge haul of fake monosodium glutamate.

At 10.30am on March 16, anti-drug border guards arrested 46-year-old Le Dinh Hung on Le Do Street while he was transporting 50 cartons of fake monosodium glutamate on his motorcycle.

Among the cartons were 30 bags of 453.6 kilogram packs of fake A-One monosodium glutamate and 20 bags each of one kilogram packs of Ajinomoto brand.

Hung confessed to transporting the fake substance for Nguyen Van Phuoc, resident of 366/17 Hung Vuong Street in Hai Chau District.

Police immediately bust the house and seized 488 kilograms of monosodium glutamate of Chinese origin; 151 kilograms of A-One monosodium glutamate and many other chemical substances.

Police probe further uncovered 96 cartons of monosodium glutamate   in 25 kilogram packs at the house of Nguyen Thi Bay in Thanh Khe District, rented by Phuoc.
