The police department in the central province of Quang Binh on Wednesday uncovered and seized 19 kilograms of Sua timber from inside the house of policeman Nguyen Van Hieu, who is suspected to have stolen it from the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
Hieu was working as a policeman in Xuan Trach Commune in Bo Trach District for the last three months, and now after the seizure is being held in custody for questioning.
According to initial information, Hieu is suspected of instigating a gang of 30 local people to rob Sua timber from another gang of 11 people who were transporting the timber out of the national park.
He also coordinated with another gang leader named Bon Tho Loc in Tho Loc Commune for the same purpose. As of now, Bon Loc Tho is absconding from his locality.
