Smugglers Caught with Thousands of Diamonds

Ho Chi Minh City police arrested two people on Friday for trying to smuggle thousands of diamonds through Tan Son Nhat Airport.

Tran Binh Tam, 66, and Nguyen Huu Tai, 40, had flown in from Hong Kong with the stones, estimated to be worth more than US$240,000.

A subsequent search of Tai’s house turned up a further 100 diamonds.

The pair were charged yesterday and remanded in custody for four months while the police continue their investigations.
