Three receive death sentence for drug trafficking

On June 26, three persons were sentenced to death and one received life imprisonment for drug trafficking by a court in Hanoi.

According to the indictment, the four persons named Dao Van Chi, 47, from Hanoi; Nguyen Thi Thu, 43, Chi’s wife; Phan Thanh Son, 41, from Son La Province; Nguyen Manh Kien, 40, from Moc Chau Province in the North; smuggled and sold large amount of drugs in Hanoi from early 2011 to June 2012.

Police seized 29 heroin cakes, each weighing about 350 grams, from the drug traffickers.

The court issued the death penalty for Chi, Son and Kien while Thu received life imprisonment.

In other news, the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department on June 25 handed over D. Jason, 40, an American national, to the Counter Narcotics Office, under the City Public Security Department, after officials at Tan Son Nhat Airport detected 1.1 kilogram of drugs on his body.
