Two cycle drivers arrested for ripping off Filipino tourists

Police officers in District 3, HCMC yesterday announced to transfer document of two cycle drivers who were arrested for ripping off Filipino tourists to the city’s Police Department for further investigation.

According to preliminary probe, drivers Tran Quy Vinh and Sam Van Dung, both 47, picked up two female tourists both Filipino nationals at the Thong Nhat Palace (Reunification Palace) for a sightseeing tour around districts 1 and 3.
After the tour, two Filipino visitors asked to stop at War Remnants Museum in Vo Van Tan Street in District 3.
They gave two drivers VND700, 000 (US$30) for the trip; however, the two drivers threatened them asking to pay additional sum of VND1 million.
Frightened by drivers’ aggressive behavior, the two female paid the additional amount as required and then reported to police.
Police officers were soon jumped into investigation finding out the two dishonest drivers. The two men confessed to snatch money from the tourists when they opened their purse, claiming the fares cost more.
Beforehand, cycle driver Pham Van Dung in District 4 was arrested for overcharging Japanese tourist Oki Toshiyuki.
