The Ho Tram Kite Festival kicked off at the namesake resort complex in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau’s Xuyen Moc District on January 1 featuring the country’s traditional cultural characteristics to welcome the new year.
The event was organized by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ho Tram resort during two days January 1 and 2.
The festival showcased hundreds of colorful kites made by 100 artisans of 10 kite professional clubs from all corners of the country. 150 colorful kites were hoisted along the resort’s 2 km-long coastline.
In addition to flying artistic kites, there was a Rokkaku kite competition among artisans. Rokkaku kite made with bamboo spars and washi paper and often hand painted with the face of a famous Samurai is a traditional six-sided Japanese fighter kite.
The competition became more excited as fliers try to knock their opponents' kites out of the sky. As many as tourists in the resort and local inhabitants enjoyed the festival. The competitors received loud applause from audience.
