13,500 Marriages with Foreigners

A Vietnamese adopted child is kissing his foreign mother. The number of Vietnamese children adopted by foreigners soared in the first 9 months of this year.

Nearly 13,500 applications for marriage to foreigners were permitted by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee from January 2003 to September 2006, of which 52 percent are marriages between Vietnamese citizens and overseas Vietnamese.

Also, the city’s People's Committee also allowed foreign parents to adopt 660 Vietnamese children.

The number of Vietnamese children adopted by foreigners soared in the first 9 months of this year, after Viet Nam signed an adoption agreement with 13 nations and territories.
