The National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation said, however, that the supply met just 40 percent of demand.

Tran Ngoc Tang, chairman of the Vietnam Red Cross Association, said that authorized organizations have come up with a strategy to boost blood donations by 2015 with an outlook to 2020.

The strategy calls for at least 2 percent of Vietnam’s population to voluntarily donate blood annually by 2020.

The project is now awaiting the Government’s approval.
