Vietnam’s quality watchdog on Friday said that five gasoline samples taken from burnt vehicles were cleared of any suspicion of being adulterated as  they met with the required national standards.

Among the five samples checked, one was from the Attila scooter that burst into flames on Tran Phu Street in Ba Dinh District in Hanoi and one from a gasoline station near the house of the pregnant victim Tran Thi Quynh in Bac Ninh City in the northern province of Bac Ninh where  Quynh had purchased it, before the accident that killed her and her four-year-old daughter on December 1.

Tran Van Vinh, deputy chief of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, under the Ministry of Science and  Technology, said no gasoline samples contained acetone, methanol or oxide concentrations exceeding permissible limits.

However, Vinh said the directorate will continue to check more gasoline samples.

In addition, Vinh advised people and related agencies to preserve gasoline samples of burnt vehicles for future checking.

On the same day, the Quality Management Agency, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, sent an urgent dispatch to a gasoline station in Hanoi that failed to meet national standards.

Staff from the Quality Management Agency paid an unscheduled visit to the Tultraco gasoline company in Ho Tung Mau Street in Cau Giay District in Hanoi.

The R92 gasoline found there had high oxygen of 8.8 percent, 3 times more than permissible limits and 15.3 percent of methanol concentration. The above concentrations in gasoline have not been approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

A gas transporting Mercedes Benz truck was travelling on the Hanoi- Lang Son highway, when it suddenly burst into flames.

Driver Do Duy Phuong said he stopped on seeing the fire in his rear-view mirror and rushed to stamp out the fire with the fire extinguisher. He called the police in the northern province of Bac Ninh  who immediately arrived at the scene.

Although the fire didn’t destroy the vehicle completely, it burnt down electric fittings and 8 of the truck tires, causing a loss of around VND1 billion. Fortunately,   the vehicle was not carrying inflammable gas at that time.

On Friday, another car in the central province of Quang Nam was charred in the middle of the night in front of a boarding-house while its driver was sleeping. Fire fighters tried to douse it with water, but in vain as the car quickly burnt down.
