Ministry plans tunnel through Ca Mountain Pass

The Ministry of Transport has announced a new project to build a tunnel through the Ca Mountain Pass in the south-central provinces of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa at an estimated cost of VND15,603 billion.

This was disclosed at a press conference on November 12. The 13.4km road project will be built in Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa Provinces with a 4.4km tunnel and 9km of road and bridges as extensions of the tunnel route.

The Ca Mountain Pass Tunnel will permit speed limits of upto 80 kilometers an hour on National Highway 1A.

The project will be constructed under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) and BT (Build-Transfer) method at a cost of VND15,603 billion (US$749 million).

Ca Mountain Pass is a steep and tortuous mountain pass in the central region. The 33m high and 8km long mountain pass crosses Dai Lanh Mountain across Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen Provinces.
