27.6 Million Krone for Sea Conservation Areas

Viet Nam's Ministry of Fisheries and the Danish Embassy signed a cooperation agreement to ensure sustainable livelihood for sea conservation areas on March 21 in Ha Noi.

The total amount reached 27.6 million krone, of which foreign capital is 26 million krone and Viet Nam's corresponding capital is 1.6million krone.  The agreement is scheduled to run from 2006 to 2010.

In the past years Viet Nam has paid attention to the development of resources as well as the conservation and protection of sustainable sea ecosystem. The country has built up the network and regulations for management of sea conservation areas and established the national park Cat Ba in the northern province Hai Phong and Mun Islet marine sanctuary.

This agreement contributes to poverty alleviation for resident communities in surrounding conservation areas.
