Afiex Executive Comes Home at Last

Nguyen Buu Huy (with flowers) is greeted by colleagues on arrival in Ha Noi

Nguyen Buu Huy, deputy director of the An Giang Agriculture and Food Import/Export Company (Afiex), returned home yesterday after spending five months in a Belgian prison.

Mr. Huy had been detained on May 10 while participating in an international fish fair in the Belgian capital, Brussels.

While he languished in detention, Ms. Phan Thuy Thanh, Viet Nam’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Belgium, and the Viet Nam Interpol Office made every effort to negotiate with the Belgian government for his release.

As the businessman traveled through Russia on the way home, Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Dang Xuan Khang of the Viet Nam Interpol Office appealed to his Russian colleagues to look after Mr. Huy.

At Ha Noi’s airport last night, a clearly relieved Buu Huy was met by his family and fellow managers at Afiex.
