Towards the successful building of the ASEAN Community by 2015, the General Assembly agreed that AIPA needs to improve the efficiency of its operations, he said.
The legislator said the General Assembly emphasised the importance of strengthening AIPA-ASEAN relations and suggested that the official meeting between AIPA and ASEAN leaders be turned into an annual event.
At the ceremony, Mr. Trong handed over the AIPA chairmanship to Chairman of AIPA-32 for the 2010-2011 term, Mr. Heng Samrin, who is Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly.
Earlier, the General Assembly held its second plenary session under the chairmanship of AIPA-31 Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong. The General Assembly heard and adopted reports presented by its committees and decisions to announce India as a new observer of AIPA and organise AIPA-32 in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, in mid-September 2011, and heads of delegation from the AIPA member nations signed a joint communiqué.
Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, Heng Samrin and heads of delegation also organised a press conference following the closing ceremony.
Deputy Head of the organizing committee and Secretary General of AIPA-31 Ngo Duc Manh worked with the Cambodian delegation to evaluate the organization of AIPA General Assembly.
On the evening of the same day, Mr.Trong and his wife hosted a banquet in honour of the delegates.
