The People’s Committee in the Northern Province of Bac Ninh has ordered the demolition of cockroach farms due to a ban by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The deadline for total demolition is March 21, said Vu Thai Ninh, head of the Husbandry Faculty of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Farmers Nguyen Dinh Nguyen and Pham Van Hung of Luong Tai District claim that breeding that insect is legal and that they were licensed by the Department of Planning and Investment (DPI).

The ban would cause huge monetary losses.

The department must assume all responsibility for issuing an illegal license, said Ninh.

Leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Bac Ninh Province urge all farmers to research legalities of raising animals and plants before investing.

Nguyen Van Trong, Deputy Head of the Animal Husbandry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, has affirmed that Bac Ninh DPI should not issue the licenses to Mr Nguyen and Hung because the breeding cockroach is not allowed in Vietnam.
