Ben Tre Province facilitates agriculture investors

A forum held in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre yesterday had met to promote investment in agriculture with the participation of the provincial Party Secretary Vo Thanh Hao, Chairman of People’s Committee Cao Van Trong and 250 enterprises.

Ben Tre province has distinct advantages in agriculture with nearly 80,000ha of coconut trees and roughly 28,000ha of specialty fruit farms, said Chairman Trong. Moreover, the province also has nearly 10 million high quality ornamental trees and 47,000 hectares of aquatic farms with yearly output of over 470,000 tons
Accordingly, leaders take heed to optimize the potential and strengths of the province.
For years, in addition to preferential policies offered to enterprises , the province authority has also facilitated investment environment by providing investors with information, completing formalities, issuing special policies for investment in industrial parks. Plus, the province has given preferential treatment to investors who invest in types of infrastructure in groups of industrial parks.
Besides, the province has supported enterprises by organizing investment promotion, market link, displaying products in local and international fairs.
Enterprises in the field of agriculture have gained more profit with revenue accounting for 26 percent of the province’s turnover while the value has reached up 17 percent of the agriculture’s sector. Agriculture enterprises have contributed 9 percent to the province’s budget.
Agro-product export revenue in the first eight months this year is estimated roughly $215 million and its products are exported to 70 countries and territories worldwide.
However, the province’s agriculture sector is still in difficulties; therefore, Party Chief Hao expected more investment projects in agriculture and rural sector.
Listening to enterprises’ opinion, leaders thanked them to voice their concerns promising to facilitate enterprises at its best.
People’s Committee also awarded certificates of merit to 18 good enterprises and cooperatives greatly contributing to the province’s agriculture sector .
Some 451 enterprises work in agriculture, accounting for 17 percent of total businesses operating in the locality, with total capital equivalent to 30 percent of total registered investment in the province.
Furthermore, the province attracts 24 FDI projects in agriculture with registered capital of $225.7 million accounting for 26 percent of the province’s FDI.
